If you recently left your employer and you were enrolled in their Group Health Plan, then you may be eligible for continuing coverage under COBRA. COBRA allows the employee and his/her family to retain their group health plan for a maximum period that ranges from 18 – 36 months as long as the employer continues to offer a group health plan. The employee is responsible for the cost of the COBRA premium which may be higher than what the individual was paying while employed. However, the cost is generally lower than that for private, individual health insurance coverage. For more information about COBRA go here.
